“‘Skang Gwaii’ was an opportunity to work on a commission for a friend who himself has been inspired to visit the ancient totems of Haida Gwaii as part of his research for a book he is writing. From the massive number of images provided to me from which to work, I drew my inspiration from a grouping of totems that seemed most weathered. The effect of the aging of the cedar created a magical internal light that almost seem to glow and just needed to be captured in this piece.”
